ORPHANAGES:

VICDA works in partnership with many children’s Homes in Nairobi and other towns in the country. With the funds received from world organizations and from volunteers, the committee disseminates and decides how the money is going to be evenly distributed to the needs of the children’s homes. The country co-coordinator and the country supervisor visit those centers from time to time and accesses their needs.

Besides financial help, VICDA aims to send as many volunteers as possible to these orphanages to help with day to day activities. Work at the orphanages ranges from cleaning, babysitting, teaching, office work and much more. Children growing up in orphanages have not known love and the volunteer will find that just a smile will brighten their day.

Many orphanages are based within the vicinity of nairobi with largest number of them based in slums. These homes have overwhelming needs. Its not suprising to find a home that is struggling to feed the children or even get them the very basics like blankets and matresses. Most volunteers that work in such homes will find that it is so heart warming to just love on the kids and just play with them.
